An outlined history of our school
An outlined history of our school
On the venue described in the introduction, 1997 saw the rapid construction of the modern two-storey building with green and light brown being the dominating colours. There have not been any major constructional changes so far, however we have been forced to enlarge spaces and classrooms during those 20 years several times. (new classes, new ideas, new challenges, etc.)
In 1987 our school opened its doors to four classes. Today 543 students swarm in the building daily. We have by all means managed to step out of anonymity into the light and are proud of having students from nearly all districts of Budapest, as well as suburban towns and villages out of the capital, however the rate of students from our home district has not dropped bellow 42 %.
During these 20 years we have taken due care to pinpoint and sense the needs of our surroundings. Since the very first time we have had popular programmes for students who are interested in English, Biology or IT, the latter reaching its peak when the school became an accredited ECDL examination centre in 2004.
The first special programme for students interested in arts and humanities came to life in 2001 whereas 2004 was the starting point of a new project called World Language providing schools with the opportunity to run language preparatory classes in order to encourage students to learn one or two foreign languages on an intense basis.
I am personally very proud of the open-minded, adventurous staff of teachers I have been able to cooperate with most successfully during the past years. I also appreciate the efforts and care of the local council with which they have support us.
Our responsibilities when „interfering” with the every day lives of approximately 2000 families have always been enormous but challenging. Not only have we put an emphasis on the teaching-learning process but we have also concentrated our efforts on issues like team building, tradition, morals, human sympathy and emotional development. I am deeply convinced that this has always been and will be in the future the best letter of recommendation for our school community. Having those wonderful poetic nights, sports events, school leavers’ balls, school days, freshers’ parties etc. we wished to provide our students with something more than mere academic knowledge. Something to remember, something that will keep us together forever.
I am grateful to all my colleagues, the students and their parents for the support and encouragement they have given us. Special thanks to our sponsors who have contributed to the publishing of this jubilee almanac.
